Let’s Call It What It Is, Selfishness.

Let’s Call It What It Is, Selfishness.

There is nothing new under the sun. No new faults, desires, sins. It all boils down to self, the “I wants”, right now, greed.

Greed, the hardening of the heart to put self before all else is as old as time. “I want”, “I need”, and “me first above all else” is priority. Self leads to all sins because self rules.

People want to be rich, they want success, they want prosperity, they want everything centered around them, they want… want… want. Wants, not needs, is as old as recorded time.
Yesterday New York celebrated a “want” for women. High society, highly successful New York, so sophisticated, so highly educated, right? Or, are they just turning back time to archaic and barbaric practices? Did they not just erase centuries of advancement for women?

The Canaanites, circa 1509 BC, practiced a ritual of offering their first born to the fires of Moloch so they would receive riches, prosperity and a successful life. Malkam was the same for the Ammonites and Melqart for the Tyrian. Placing their first born in a fire, how barbaric people say. How ignorant, how selfish. God thought so.

Leviticus 20:2 “Say to the people of Israel, Any one of the people of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech shall surely be put to death.

Imagine what He thinks now as New York has just turned back time. Women can now offer their first born to the fires of abortion. Yes, fire, saline abortion is toxic and it burns. Essentially it burns soft tissues, even skin in the womb. The baby is burned even from the inside as the child swallows the solution. Such torture. Unthinkable. Unimaginable. How barbaric. A modern woman would never do such a thing.

New York has done the unthinkable. A woman can choose to torture an infant for convenience, for costs, for unwanted, for wrong gender, for any reason. Be careful though, you still cannot disturb a turtle or eagles nest. Those eggs, fertilized or not, are still protected by state and federal laws.
Welcome to 2019 New York. Your women can sacrifice their first born for convenience, career, riches, gender choice …. success and prosperity. Moloch just changed his name to abortion.

A civilized woman would utilize self control over selfishness. A civilized society would fund adoptions, not abortions.

God or gods?

God or gods?

There is a difference between God and gods. There are many false gods. Who are your gods? The devil is the god of this world, as evident of mankind’s worship of all things sin. They choose him, to be blinded.

2 Corinthians 4:4 “in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

While satan* rules this earth, he is not in control unless you give him control. In essence you worship him when you worship a sin and it controls you.

Some worship lying, they will con you out of your last dollar. They will trick you into taking the side of wrong, they will lead you to believe in false data. They mess with your mental focus. The Bible tells us who is the father of deceit, satan*.

Some worship the flesh. Ignoring all other aspects of their being… mental, emotional and spiritual, their focus is all things physical. Instead of spirituality being foremost it is last or nonexistent. The physical controls their mental and emotional to the point of deprivation.

Many worship materialistic gods; houses, cars, boats, sports, money. Their gods control their decisions leaving them in patterns of habitual sin. Not all things are sinful but, prioritizing them to the point of worshipping them is sinful. They confuse wants with needs.

Although many prioritize everything above God, in essence making satan* their god, their priorities and satan* are not God. “The One, I Am” is God. God won the war over sin for all who believe Jesus came, lived, died and rose again as their Savior.

All of us have a void in us that occurred with the fall of man. When God left, the emptiness of life without Him began. Mankind tries to fill their emptiness with all sorts of gods. The only filling of that void comes when The Holy Spirit fills it after we accept Christ as our Savior.

Sadly, many Christians take control of their life and try to replace the Holy Spirit, ignoring the Power He gives, leaving a sense of emptiness again. The Holy Spirit is still there, willing an able to replace your substitute gods.

“The One, I Am” is God. He won for man the war over sin once and for ALL. All who believe Jesus came, lived, died and rose again as their Savior are victors with Christ.

Who are what are your gods today. Is God Lord or, are you and your gods in charge?

*lower case because he is one.

What is missing?

What is missing?

I am reading, hearing and seeing more and more topical sermons, studies and programs on why so many are not attending church. They all have lists, numbers, statistical findings on…. excuses.

  • There are long time church members staying home.
  • Families bouncing from church to church.
  • Young people discouraged and looking elsewhere, even the world.
  • Visitors that don’t return. All searching, hungry, looking.

Why? I have not found the answer in any list I have seen. That is because the lists are based on excuses. The writers all focus on excuses, not the reason. The reason hits too close to home. Many of them are the cause. There is only One reason. He is missing.

This is not new. John wrote of churches in His day that were found lacking, where He was missing. Only two were positive, Smyrna and Philadelphia…. 28-1/2% of the churches in his day were found faithful.

Sadly, too many of our churches in America today are becoming more like the other 71-1/2% written about in Revelation. This is the message John needed churches to hear and why God had it recorded. It is how churches are held to accountability. Many churches are a combination of more than one of the ones John wrote to; how tragic.

  1. Rev 2:1-7 Ephesus churches that have forsaken God as their first love
  2. Rev 2:12-17 Pergamum churches that need to repent
  3. Rev 2:18-29 Thyatira churches with false teachers/teachings
  4. Rev 3:1-6 Sardis churches have fallen asleep, simply exist, there is no visible life
  5. Rev 3:14-22 Laodicea churches that are luke warm, fence straddlers, tolerate sin to keep peace

If only the flocks had shepherds (pastors, teachers, leaders) that pointed to The Great Shepherd and led in Worship.

People are looking for worship. Only worship fills that nagging empty void. It was a place in us created by God for communion with Him, and Him alone. And the void that was created by the fall of man can ONLY be filled by restoration of communion with God. Consecrated, sanctified and humbled by the great I AM, we can approach with our hearts now humble and reverent in worship of Him. That is the hunger everyone is yearning to be sated.

There is a time and place for praise and rejoicing for all He has done. But, only after we have worshiped who He IS, the Great I AM, can we know how to praise Him fully. How can you adequately praise someOne you don’t know who He is? You must truly, reverently and in all humbleness, bow your heart before Him. El Shaddai, El Elyon…. Lord God Almighty, The Most High God.

We have a generation that feels they have worshipped God because they have “praised” Him. Through all the good feelings and emotional highs, the theatrics, lightings, gesturing and posturing they leave service fulfilled. It lasts until they get to the restaurant and everyone starts grumbling. Diluted by the world being brought in to God’s house, most have never been in a House of Worship. They will try and recharge themselves throughout the week by putting on praise songs, motivational speakers, and try to shout, clap and dance. Yet they feel empty shortly there after. They do not know how to worship the Great I AM, so their praise is as unfulfilling. They put the proverbial cart before the horse and find no success in moving towards God. Time and place, Ecclesiastes 3.

Families move from church to church searching trying different programs. Youth become delusion and leave. The elderly become more and more hungry for real worship they once knew. There is one reason – no place to Worship, no reverence, no humbling, no teaching of El Shaddai, El Elyon. All the praising of what He has done can never replace who He is, the Great I Am.

“The Rest of YOUR Story ….”

What kind of books do you like?  How about movies? Like music genres, people like different types of entertainment in their books and movies.  But, one thing most people like is a good ending. Let’s face it, we want good to win, the good guy to win the girl, all the problems solved. You know how you hate it when something is left undone, unsaid, loose ends? All the questions have to be answered, the problems solved. the-rest-of-the-story

Many of my readers may not remember a radio classic and evening news commentator, Paul Harvey (click his name to hear his 1965 Rest of the Story on America).  He was famous for “The Rest Of The Story”.   So many times we get ‘blurbs’ of everyday events unaware of what “The Rest Of The Story” was.  He told the details with such detail and interest that he kept you hanging on until the end.

Sometimes our lives get going so fast that we are constant “blurbs” and nowadays, “bytes”.  The rest of the story is lost on those around us.  No one knows what our story is and sadly many do not care.  Sometimes you feel you’re in a romance novel, sometimes a travel adventure.  Often you’re in a mystery and sadly sometimes a tragic melodrama.  Our books are written day by  day, the story line going who knows where.  Characters come and go, tension mounts, tragedy enters or high adventure.  Your heart rates goes up and down and you wonder if the roller coaster will ever end.  You want the story to end happily ever after like your story books of your childhood.  You would be okay with everything no matter what if you could just get a peek at the end, to know that everything turns out all right.

Well, you know that if you’re a Christian.  You do not have to get impatient with the twist and turns.  You may not know the ending but, you know that it ends all right. You KNOW the Author.  He’s the Author and the finisher of your faith.  Sit back and trust in the end and don’t miss a second of the story worrying about how things are going to turn out or what is going to happen next.

Jeremiah 29:11(NASB)For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”

At whom are you pointing your finger?

Everyday you read it, see it or hear it … someone pointing the finger at the ‘other guy’.  So and so did it, it’s someone elses fault.  The old saying is, when you point the finger there are three others pointing back at you.  no-finger-pointingEveryone is to blame, and no one is to blame.  No one wants to take credit for the bad, no one wants to be at fault.  We are a NO FAULT generation.

Christians are no better, they love to point fingers.  “No wonder what they are going through, did you know that …?”  and so the gossip goes.  Gossiping, that’s another blog.  Pointing the finger, you cannot go to church or be in a gathering of Christians without hearing people pointing the finger.

Recently someone a few towns over won $600 million in the lottery.  I heard so many comments from Christians.  “Better not have been a Christian, unless they found it in the parking lot!” Amazing what people single out.  So many play the $.44 cent lottery (cost of stamp to mail in an entry to win millions in a contest).  Others ‘gamble’ on the stock market.  Gambling’s a sin, right?  Depend on how much you spend?  What about that $1.29 candy bar at the check out? Gluttony’s a sin right?  Depends on if you’re overweight?  That soft drink? That movie? What about that latte?  We just LOVE to point our fingers at everyone elses lifestyle.

Matthew 7:5 (NASB) “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”

One woman looks at another shaking her head and leans to her neighbor, “how does she allow herself to get so overweight?”  The guy leans in to comment to his co-worker, “I heard he has something on the boss and that’s why he got the promotion.”  The little boy nudges the girl beside him, “her mom bought that award for her.”  (Where do you think the kids learn it from?)

The root of much finger pointing is jealousy.  Watch your thoughts today, you might accidentally speak out loud.  Now back up and read the preceding verses to Matthew 7:5:

Matthew 7:1-4 (NASB) 1Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye?”

The only judgement comes from God’s word.  Let Him be the judge.

How Many Footprints?

I am sure you have all heard or read the poem “Footprints”. Footprints-in-the-Sand121

It is a wonderful sentiment to reflect on during hard times.  Recently, actually over the past several years, I have had time to remind my self that the Lord carries me through the tough times.  But, this got me thinking the other day after coming through a medical trial.  Over the past five years as I look back I see where the Lord has carried us through during loss of jobs; my mother’s illness and death; our daughter being buried in the tornado; the bank trying to foreclose on our home, financial difficulties to pay for the broken elbow, a funeral, a wedding; difficult child births of grandchildren and finding a way to be there; and my chronic illness.  Yes, He definitely carried us through.

But, then I thought, “Lord, what am I doing?”  It is like we go through life and an “earthquake” rocks our world and we beg and allow the Lord to carry us through.  Then we basically say, “Lord, I got this, put me down”.  And we start cruisin’ along until we are hit by a “tornado” that sends our world spinning and again we beg and allow the Lord to carry us through.  Then we get back on our own and a “whirlpool” sucks us in, or a  “tsunami” or a “hurricane” , “quicksand” or “molten lava” hits us and on and on we go up and down out of His arms.

Life is HARD so why in the world do we keep taking control and asking to be “set down”?

WHAT IF looking back on our life there

WERE ONLY ONE

set of Foot prints,

HIS?

Isaiah 40:28-29, 31 28Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding isinscrutable. 29 He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. 31 Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.

HOPE is a verb!

HOPE – According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

intransitive verb
1: to cherish a desire with anticipation <hopes for a promotion>
2: archaic : trust
transitive verb
1: to desire with expectation of obtainment
2: to expect with confidence : trust

EasterNot to worry, I am not giving you an English lesson today.  But, note where the WORLD places what Christian’s think of the word HOPE … in 2nd.  It is NOT archaic for our HOPE to be TRUST nor is it secondary TO TRUST IN OUR HOPE WITH EXPECTANCY AND CONFIDENCE.

If your HOPE this Easter season is faltering and wavering. If you are giving in to circumstances of life, than you need to look towards The Cross and seek His Face, allowing the Holy Spirit to renew your HOPE!

Sing unto The Lord:

“My HOPE is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly trust in Jesus’ name! (Don’t you love that song!)

Easter, you have your proof.  Now stand on His promises, our HOPE – Jesus.

1 Peter 1:3-5 (NASB)3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living HOPE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in Heaven for you, 5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Despite your circumstances, your LIFE, live in the Proof, Standing on the HOPE!

Colossians 3:23 (HCSB)23Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically,as something done for the Lord and not for men,24 knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ.

RENEW YOUR HOPE: Read His Word

Hebrews 6:11  “We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your HOPE sure.”

Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold unswervingly to the HOPE we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”

Hebrews 11:1  “Now faith is being sure of what we HOPE for and certain of what we do not see.”

1 Peter 1:13  “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your HOPE fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.”
