Let’s Call It What It Is, Selfishness.

There is nothing new under the sun. No new faults, desires, sins. It all boils down to self, the “I wants”, right now, greed.

Greed, the hardening of the heart to put self before all else is as old as time. “I want”, “I need”, and “me first above all else” is priority. Self leads to all sins because self rules.

People want to be rich, they want success, they want prosperity, they want everything centered around them, they want… want… want. Wants, not needs, is as old as recorded time.
Yesterday New York celebrated a “want” for women. High society, highly successful New York, so sophisticated, so highly educated, right? Or, are they just turning back time to archaic and barbaric practices? Did they not just erase centuries of advancement for women?

The Canaanites, circa 1509 BC, practiced a ritual of offering their first born to the fires of Moloch so they would receive riches, prosperity and a successful life. Malkam was the same for the Ammonites and Melqart for the Tyrian. Placing their first born in a fire, how barbaric people say. How ignorant, how selfish. God thought so.

Leviticus 20:2 “Say to the people of Israel, Any one of the people of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech shall surely be put to death.

Imagine what He thinks now as New York has just turned back time. Women can now offer their first born to the fires of abortion. Yes, fire, saline abortion is toxic and it burns. Essentially it burns soft tissues, even skin in the womb. The baby is burned even from the inside as the child swallows the solution. Such torture. Unthinkable. Unimaginable. How barbaric. A modern woman would never do such a thing.

New York has done the unthinkable. A woman can choose to torture an infant for convenience, for costs, for unwanted, for wrong gender, for any reason. Be careful though, you still cannot disturb a turtle or eagles nest. Those eggs, fertilized or not, are still protected by state and federal laws.
Welcome to 2019 New York. Your women can sacrifice their first born for convenience, career, riches, gender choice …. success and prosperity. Moloch just changed his name to abortion.

A civilized woman would utilize self control over selfishness. A civilized society would fund adoptions, not abortions.

God or gods?

God or gods?

There is a difference between God and gods. There are many false gods. Who are your gods? The devil is the god of this world, as evident of mankind’s worship of all things sin. They choose him, to be blinded.

2 Corinthians 4:4 “in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

While satan* rules this earth, he is not in control unless you give him control. In essence you worship him when you worship a sin and it controls you.

Some worship lying, they will con you out of your last dollar. They will trick you into taking the side of wrong, they will lead you to believe in false data. They mess with your mental focus. The Bible tells us who is the father of deceit, satan*.

Some worship the flesh. Ignoring all other aspects of their being… mental, emotional and spiritual, their focus is all things physical. Instead of spirituality being foremost it is last or nonexistent. The physical controls their mental and emotional to the point of deprivation.

Many worship materialistic gods; houses, cars, boats, sports, money. Their gods control their decisions leaving them in patterns of habitual sin. Not all things are sinful but, prioritizing them to the point of worshipping them is sinful. They confuse wants with needs.

Although many prioritize everything above God, in essence making satan* their god, their priorities and satan* are not God. “The One, I Am” is God. God won the war over sin for all who believe Jesus came, lived, died and rose again as their Savior.

All of us have a void in us that occurred with the fall of man. When God left, the emptiness of life without Him began. Mankind tries to fill their emptiness with all sorts of gods. The only filling of that void comes when The Holy Spirit fills it after we accept Christ as our Savior.

Sadly, many Christians take control of their life and try to replace the Holy Spirit, ignoring the Power He gives, leaving a sense of emptiness again. The Holy Spirit is still there, willing an able to replace your substitute gods.

“The One, I Am” is God. He won for man the war over sin once and for ALL. All who believe Jesus came, lived, died and rose again as their Savior are victors with Christ.

Who are what are your gods today. Is God Lord or, are you and your gods in charge?

*lower case because he is one.

Where’s Your Baggage?

Over the summer when I went to pick up my hubby at the airport, I arranged to meet him in baggage claim.   I love to watch people and baggage claim can be quite entertaining.  Baggage claim … oh the stories I could tell.  This trip got me thinking and taking notes for a future blog.

There are SO many bags: baggage claim

  All shapes

  All sizes

  All weights

Some are:

    Worn

    Ugly

    Damaged

    Lost

So I took my notes and tucked them away.  Then, recently,  when our son-in-law returned overseas, one of the bags he was carrying was lost.   According to the airlines, it  never left the airport here.  Weeks have gone by and still they have not found the bag.  The theory is, the tag got torn off on the belt going down from the ticketing area to the sorting area for planes.   Wouldn’t it have been thoughtful for the airport employee to have marked that bag with date, time and belt?  Might have helped … maybe not.  It is still missing weeks later.

So, when our daughter and granddaughters followed weeks later with their baggage, I decided to treat them like I do packages here in the states.  I typed up a LARGE piece of paper stating:  “LUGGAGE DESTINATION” and we laid it on top before closing each bag.  We don’t know if that worked because none got lost.   But, it would be nice to think it would.

Unlike our traveling baggage, we often want to carry our ‘life’s baggage” around daily.    Piling it on day after day until somehow we cannot function at all.    All the regrets, the what ifs, and only ifs … they load us down.  Wouldn’t it be nice if the “baggage tag” were just torn off and lost?   That just doesn’t happen in real life.  It seems to be indelibly marked with our name.  Sometimes we set the “baggage down” but, hold on to the tickets and go back and pick them up later.   We never learn.  The only tag on our baggage, inside and out, should read:  “Return to Jesus”.

Give HIM your tickets and let HIM carry your baggage.

Psalm 55:22 ( NASB) Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.”

Matthew 11:28 (NLT) “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

“Who’s On First?”

Ahh, baseball’s end of season.  Millions are watching to see who will win the World Series.   Who will win, who will lose?

Some of you are way too young to remember the old comedy routine of Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s On First?” ???????????????

It’s a classic bit of confusion not unlike real life when we get our “game of life” out-of-order.  Life is a game with rules and regulations.  Our problem is in not “reading the Rule book”.  We want to run “home”,  or maybe to “2nd” or “3rd” skipping “1st”.  You cannot score a run to “Home” without running the bases and you have to start with “1st” base.

In our game of life we tend to run after foul or fly balls; chasing around the infield or outfield and totally disregard “1st” base.

Today you may face some curve balls, knuckle balls or spit balls.  You’re going to swing and try to connect.   Don’t look at the pitcher, the catcher … run around the infield or chase out into the outfield   LOOK to “First Base” and start running.  First base is your Lord and Savior.  Without First Base there is no game.  There is no beginning, and no end.  There is no success, no win.

If your life is confusion and mayhem, if you’re playing the game with out the “Rule Book”, His word, then you are going to lose.  You are going to be lost, miserable and empty.  Get into the Word, check your Guide, and head towards First Base.

Psalm 119:105 NASB Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”

James 1:5 HCSB “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.”

These Are The Chapters Of Your Life

Not as catching as "The Days Of Your Life", but it gets my point across (I hope). chapters I have several young people working with me. Some are finishing high school while others are preparing for their college graduation. Papers, exams, hurrying up to get finished; they cannot wait to graduate.

Graduation: Turn the page for the next chapter in your life. Chapters, there are so many. Some we want to hurry and get through; we are ready to move on. Others we want to last forever and never change. But, life changes and new chapters begin. Our lives are like a book. There is the opening sentence, the closing sentence and a lot of "stuff" in-between. Sometime,if you become a Christian, a main theme becomes inserted. If not, your life never has a theme and the book rambles and turns, going from place to place, never quite making sense.

The main theme: Christ is the thread that holds your story together. Are your chapters well written? Is there proper transition, a thread of continuity? Is God the author of your story, or do you try to become a Ghost Writer and take "the pen in hand." If so, when a "game changer" (tragedy, job change or loss, birth, marriage, loved ones death, etc.) comes into place your story becomes muddled and confused, lacking structure and cohesiveness to hold the story together.

If I started a blog and some one pushed me out of the way to finish what I was trying to write, confusion would be the result. Why not let the Author finish what He started?

Hebrews 12:22 (NASB)“fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Or, you can go ahead and pick up the “pen” yourself, tell God you don’t trust Him with your life and make a mess of the chapters of your story.

Praise Him in the storms.

Peace-Amid-the-Storm“I Will Praise You In This Storm” *Casting Crowns copyright

So many I know are going through long, on-going trials.  As I listened to Casting Crowns song (link above) I am encouraged to know that not only does He have a plan for these storms but that He never forgets we are down here struggling.

“I was sure by now God You would have reached down And wiped our tears away Stepped in and saved the day But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining”

She tends to his needs day by day while caring for others along the way.  His body crippled by Parkinson’s and other maladies, she longs for sleep and energy.  Racked with pain, her own body screams, for Him to intervene is her biggest dream.

“As the thunder rolls I barely hear Your whisper through the rain “I’m with you” And as Your mercy falls I raise my hands and praise the God who gives And takes away…”

The death of loved ones on both sides of the family has taken place. Tears of “it’s too soon, there was so much more to say” make their path down their face. Days they want back, words taken away.  If only they had just one more day.

[Chorus:] “And I’ll praise You in this storm And I will lift my hands For You are who You are No matter where I am And every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand You never left my side And though my heart is torn I will praise You in this storm…”

His mind is not in the present, his body worn out.  They long for his suffering to end or for him to turn about.  The days are long, it seems it will never end.  He looks at them and tries to remember, “family or friend?”

I remember when I stumbled in the wind You heard my cry to you And you raised me up again My strength is almost gone How can I carry on If I can’t find You…”

He’s lost his job, maybe his home. She’s working hard, the days are long.  Day in, day out … week in, week out … month in, month out … year in, year out.  Time is at a standstill for them; God made time for them, not for Him.

“But as the thunder rolls I barely hear You whisper through the rain “I’m with you” And as Your mercy falls I raise my hands and praise the God who gives And takes away…”

The trials and suffering for many seem to have no end.  The world we live in, the life we live.  God is in control, still on the throne.  He loves us and has a plan to work all things together for our good.

[Chorus] “I lift my eyes unto the hills Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord The Maker of Heaven and Earth.”

Jeremiah 29:11 (NASB)For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalm 121:11 KJV  “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from which comes my help.”

Just LEAVE ME ALONE!

Have you heard those words …  from one of your kids?Leave-Me-Alone-I-Know-What-I-m-Doing-T-Shirts  How about from your spouse?  Maybe, you said them.    It’s a cry of , “I don’t want to deal with it.”  Sometimes we think ignoring something will make it go away.  Sometimes dealing with an issue is worse than the issue.  Kind of like the old saying, “the cure is worse than the illness.”

Matthew 8:33-34 NASB  “The herdsmen ran away, and went to the city and reported everything, including what had happened to the demoniacs. And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they implored Him to leave their region.”

They were comfortable with their lives.  They did not want them interrupted.  Some people will not hear the Lord, because they are afraid of what they’ll have to give up to live for Him.   Many accept Him and then hold back parts of their lives, not willing to give up what is “theirs”.  Truth is, it’s all His … holding back just keeps you from getting what He has for you.

Are you comfortable with your sin?  Do you want God to leave you alone?  Deal with it now, because until you do God will keep nudging you.  He chastens you much like you do your children to clean up their room, do their homework.   You do so because it is good for them and because you love them.  God will keep after His children to mold them as they “grow up” as well.

Hebrews 12:6 NLT “For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”

He loves each and every one of us.  He never stops loving you and will never stop loving you.  It is safe to turn over everything to Him, every little corner.  If you do not, you still have a toehold on your life, and so does satan*.  You will never be satisfied with your life as long as you are in control, and neither will He.

Is God satisfied with you?
*satan, devil – I know people capitalize the “S” or “D” but, I don’t.  I refuse to give him any status of importance.  He’s a snake, so satan, devil, etc. are lower case, as he is one.
